FARGO—Minnesotans in need of insulin can apply to a safety net program if they need urgent or continuing access to affordable insulin.
The urgent need program gives Minnesotans a one-time 30-day supply of insulin for no more than a $35 copay.
There is also a continuing need program which gives eligible Minnesotans up to a year supply of insulin for no more than $50 for a 90 day refill.
These programs have been in effect since July and since then, the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy Executive Director Cody Wiberg says they've helped hundreds of people.
"The urgent need program can help make sure that Minnesotans don't go without insulin that they really urgently need," says Wiberg.
In order to apply, you need to bring a filled out 'urgent need insulin' application to your pharmacy or apply though the manufacturer or prescriber for a continuing need.
