A local state of emergency has been declared in Harrison County. The proclamation allows Harrison County to receive federal and state assistance with the preparation, mitigation, and recovery of the storm.

Harrison County remains under a hurricane warning, river flood warning, and a storm surge warning which has the potential to be life-threatening.

The Harrison County EMA is also expecting slow moving Sally to bring a surge of water to Harrison County. EMA Director Rupert Lacy said, “Well see a backwash of water then we’ll see a front push of water. We want people to realize that roads are going to become in-passable. If you’re in an area that’s low lying go to your loved ones, go to your shelter. As we tell people don’t wait on us to make the decision. You have a choice you can make now.”

Harrison County EMA is also asking residents to be patient and prepare to hunker down in their homes.

They suggest turning your refrigerator to maximum cold, save battery life on your phone, stay indoors away from windows, and opening the door to the attic to help equalize pressure on the roof.
