ABINGTON, PA — The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is continuing its expansion in Montgomery County, as a a new Urgent Care Center opened up its doors this week in Abington.
The facility at 1840 Susquehanna Road will offer after-hours treatment for children with mild or moderate illnesses or injuries which do not require the resources of an emergency room.
"We are excited to offer pediatric urgent care in a new location in Montgomery County, making it easier for local families to get expert care in their community," Elizabeth Younkins, the Vice President of the CHOP Care Network, said in a statement. "Our five CHOP Urgent Care Centers allow families to receive the appropriate level of care in a fast, convenient and child-friendly environment."
It's the fifth such CHOP Urgent Care, joining locations in Chalfont, Glen Mills, Haverford, and King of Prussia.
Ear infections, headaches, minor burns, wounds requiring stitches, mild asthma, and minor broken bones are examples of things that can be treated at Urgent Care. More serious illnesses and injuries should still be treated at an emergency room.
CHOP also plans to open a new inpatient hospital nearby in King of Prussia this fall.
The Abington Urgent Care offers expanded hours and weekend hours, operating from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays, and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays.
