Oʻahu's emergency sirens were "inadvertently activated" about 20 minutes before a monthly test was due to take place Monday. There is no emergency.
The sirens mistakenly blared at 11:21 a.m. Officials later went ahead and set off the sirens at 11:45 a.m. for the regularly scheduled monthly test.
The Hawaiʻi Emergency Management Agency said the error occurred only on Oʻahu.
Hawaiʻi tests the emergency sirens at 11:45 a.m. on the first working day of every month.
