Cottage Health on Tuesday will open the doors to the first of 10 new urgent care facilities.
Cottage Health Urgent Care Center in Hollister Village in Goleta, 7070 Hollister Ave., Suite 103, will take appointments and walk-in visits 365 days a year from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The center will be staffed with certified nurse practitioners, radiology technicians and clinical concierges.
The center’s staff will be “dedicated to providing the highest quality care that distinguishes Cottage Health,” spokeswoman Maria Zate said.
It will provide treatment for minor injuries and ailments such as cold and flu symptoms, minor cuts or burns, sprains, and urinary infections. X-ray and lab services also will be available on site.
“This particular type of urgent care is really a consumer-driven model meant to be quick, efficient and meet people where they are,” said Taryn O’Connell, administrative director of Cottage Health’s urgent care operations. “This was something new that we could offer to the community.”
The Urgent Care Center offers what's called point-of-care lab testing, in which a quick specimen sample can be taken and tested on site with results ready in five to 10 minutes. Patients can get tested for ailments such as urinary tract infections, strep throat or influenza.
Concierge staff will guide each patient throughout the duration of their visit, offering water, coffee or tea to make sure they feel comfortable. Instead of having multiple staff members perform different tasks throughout the visit, Cottage Health hopes that staying with one concierge staff member will create a more personal experience for the patient.

“Something that makes our urgent care unique is that we do have this concierge model,” O’Connell said.
All 10 facilities will operate under the same model and provide the same services. O’Connell said the intent is to make each facility as alike as possible in their layout and structure, “down to sutures being placed in the same drawer.”
The centers will open along the Central Coast from Camarillo to San Luis Obispo. The next facility is set to open in Oxnard by the end of July or early August. About a month later, the Santa Maria facility will open its doors to patients as well.
“Patients can expect the same level of service and quality of care that comes with the Cottage name among all the urgent cares,” O’Connell said.
