The long-awaited Estes Park Health Urgent Care Center is open for business. Located at 420 Steamer Parkway, Suite 101,  next to the new Jimmy John’s and near the Safeway gas station, the clinic is the first of its kind for the town.

“We are very excited about being able to offer these extended services for residents of Estes Park as well as our visitors from out of town,” said Director of the Urgent Care Center Barbara Valente. “I used to work as a triage nurse at a hospital prior to taking this position. I can’t tell you how many times I would get phone calls late in the afternoon by people trying to get a clinic visit for their non-emergency health needs.”

The Urgent Care Center is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week.

The Urgent Care Center is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week, providing more complete access to care.

Since the center opened on May 27, a few patients have come through the doors with injuries from bicycle accidents or wounds from outings in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Valente and her team are marketing their new services on websites, sending out mailers and working with organizations to hand out fliers so people can know this new service is available.

The clinic is designed to handle patients who cannot see their regular doctors when they need help, but are not quite injured or sick enough to need the emergency room.

Not only do these visits cost less than emergency care, but they keep patients out of the emergency room when they do not need to go there.

With x-ray ability and a lab on site, the Urgent Care Center can handle everything from minor broken bones to wounds, burns, infections, allergic reactions, altitude sickness, dehydration, asthma issues and rashes.

The new facility is decorated in muted colors and features rotating art work by local artists. With a coffee cart, televisions and a vending machine, the area has been designed for patient comfort. The front windows provide a beautiful view of Longs Peak.

The center has 7 exam rooms, an x-ray room and a small laboratory.

“I’m so excited,” said community paramedic Sharon Bielmaier who works at the center. “This is something that is so needed. We are excited to be part of a service that is so necessary in our community. We have seen this need forever.”

Bielmaier assists in getting patients back quickly to an exam room, taking vital signs, casting, assisting with x-rays and administering medications.

Nurse Practitioner Patty Keller said she has been working on the Front Range and has seen people from Estes Park “drive down the mountain to get medical care.”

“This can delay needed care,” Keller said. “If you put off seeing to an infection or an injury, those health concerns can really get a foot hold and can get worse and develop complications.”

Keller says the new center has amenities she enjoys as a provider, including state-or-the art overhead lights and beds that go up and down, making it easier on elderly patients.

“We’re all set up with all of the equipment we need to do our jobs well,” Keller added. “This facility was well prepared, well thought out, well designed and it is beautiful.”

The providers work closely with the patients’ own physicians and share the same charting system. Consultations are just a phone call away.

“I’d like for people to know that we’re here, available, eager and willing to help them,” Keller emphasized. “They are safe here. We really care about them. We have great compassion here for their needs and we are eager to help out and to impact our community to have better health.”

Outpatient Rehabilitation Services and Specialty Clinic Providers are also housed in the same building as the Urgent Care Center.
