St. Louis Sheriff's Office responds to three water emergencies on Fourth of July - WDIO

The first water emergency occurred at approximately noon on Bassett Lake.

Police say it a 47-year-old male was injured by a tow rope while water tubing behind a boat on Bassett Lake. According to authorities, he was transported by private vehicle to a Duluth area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The second water emergency occurred at approximately 1:30pm on Bear Island Lake near Babbitt.

Police say a 65-year-old male was found unresponsive in the water after attempting to swim after a floating object that was in the water. CPR was performed on the male by several people who were on scene and the male was then transported by the Babbitt Ambulance to the to the Ely-Bloomenson hospital. At this time, authorities say he was conscious and alert.

The Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Babbitt Police Department.

The third water emergency occurred at approximately 2:00pm on Pelican Lake in Orr.

Police say a 69-year-old male was observed unresponsive after he jumped off a pontoon boat to swim. CPR was performed on him by others that had been on the pontoon with him. According to authorities, the male was was conscious and alert upon first responders arrival and was transported by the Orr Ambulance to the Cook Hospital.

The Minnesota DNR and Virginia Ambulance service also assisted.
