PORT MOODY (NEWS 1130) — People in the Tri-Cities who need medical care will soon have an alternative to lining up at local walk-in clinics or waiting to be seen at a hospital emergency room.

An Urgent and Primary Care Centre will open in February of 2021.

These centres offer same-day care for “non-life-threatening” medical issues, and connect patients who don’t have family physicians to ongoing care.

“I am very happy for the communities in the Tri-Cities that will benefit from this new urgent and primary care centre to help meet their daily health-care needs closer to home,” says Rick Glumac, MLA for Port Moody-Coquitlam in a release.

“Urgent and primary care centres are an excellent solution for people who may not have a regular family doctor, and they can also help patients secure a primary care provider.”

The province has opened up 21 of these centres since 2018. They are staffed with doctors, nurse practitioners, social workers, nurses, and a pharmacist.

This is the first centre in the Tri-Cities.
