Carlstadt police ordered residents on two borough blocks to shelter in place Saturday afternoon as authorities dealt with a reported standoff situation.
In an “urgent police announcement” issued at 2:35 p.m., Carlstadt instructed residents on 6th and 7th streets between Division and Passaic avenues to stay in their homes due to “immediate police activity.”
One observer on social media described a “hardcore swat situation” down the street from her.
A police officer at the Carlstadt station declined comment when reached by phone Saturday, saying the incident remained active.
