There will be a lot of emergency equipment around a church in a quiet hamlet north of Binghamton November 6 as a leader in Broome County’s emergency response operations is honored and remembered.
Area fire companies, ambulance services and other emergency responders are being asked to bring just one piece of apparatus if they plan to attend the funeral services for Broome County’s former Fire Coordinator/Director of Emergency Services Mike Aswad. Funeral services will be held at Saint Francis Assisi Church on Chenango Street in Hillcrest Saturday, November 6 with calling hours starting at 9 a.m.
Motorists should be aware there will be a lot of activity, including fire trucks and other vehicles in the area around the church through midday Saturday. Departments planning on attending, if they haven’t done so yet, should contact Broome County Fire Coordinator Jeffrey Buckler.
Broome’s first Fire Coordinator passed away October 20 at the age of 71. He served in fire and ambulance companies and as fire and emergency services director from 1981 until he retired in 2006.
