CityMD on Tuesday acquired Urgent Care Now and three of its locations in Ocean County, New Jersey, expanding its presence in the state to 19 sites.
The Lanoka Harbor, Manahawkin and Toms River sites were closed Tuesday for rebranding; they reopened Wednesday as CityMD sites. The Little Egg Harbor location closed permanently.
Discussions to acquire Urgent Care Now began about 18 months ago and had been set to close in May, but the Covid-19 outbreak delayed the deal, said Dr. Vincent Campasano, senior vice president of operations at CityMD. He declined to disclose the deal’s value but said the acquisition could add about 90,000 annual visits to CityMD’s network.
The expansion is CityMD’s first foray into Ocean County and represents a step up of the firm’s efforts in the region, Campasano said.
That includes CityMD’s December acquisition of Coastal Urgent Care in Monmouth County, which added about 30,000 visits to its operations, he said.
Dr. John Kulin, who was CEO of Urgent Care Now, will join CityMD as medical director of clinical informatics and help the company streamline the workflow of emergency responders, Campasano said.
CityMD will continue to assess future expansion opportunities in New Jersey, Campasano said.
“Expanding the number of patients a company can care for is a model that works in both good and bad financial times,” he said.
CityMD, with headquarters in Midtown, was founded in 2010 and has more than 120 locations in New York and New Jersey. It merged with New Jersey–based network Summit Medical Group in August 2019. The combined group handles more than 4.6 million patient visits annually.
