When you're having a late-night animal emergency, the last thing you want to do is drive an hour to Nashville to get your pet seen by a veterinarian.
Which is why Beau House, veterinarian and co-owner of Nashville Veterinary Specialists and Animal Emergency, is opening a new location in Clarksville.
Nashville Veterinary Specialists + Animal Emergency will be open Friday located off Wilma Rudolph Boulevard at 685 Kennedy Lane.
This will be the second animal hospital run by the Nashville-based company, and House said he looks forward to being able to deliver a new option for clients and their animals in Clarksville.
“There's already a great foundation of veterinarians here who do a fantastic job, but there's a hole," he said.
House, 39, said this establishment will give the community another level of expertise by providing 24-hour assistance, on weekends and on holidays.
“You have to go outside the community you live in to get advanced and after-hours care … some people drive to Nashville, but there's a lot of pets that can't make it there," House said.
The hospital has veterinarians who specialize in internal medicine and will do emergency surgeries.
But the hospital does not provide wellness care such as vaccines, spaying or neutering. “We’re here as an extension of their (clients) family veterinarians.”
The animal hospital is an 8,500-square-foot facility featuring six exam rooms, two surgery suites, ultrasound testing, X-rays, a diagnostic laboratory and more.
There will be over 40 technicians, some providing emergency care, and specialists. No appointments are needed for emergency services.
Opening during pandemic
The hospital was set to open in April, but that was pushed back because of COVID-19.
They’ve had experience working during the pandemic at their first location and plan to use the same procedures at the Clarksville site by practicing curbside services.
“We're going to essentially mirror the operations we are doing in Nashville," House said.
Someone will have a designated area outside of the hospital to greet clients and their animals to see what kind of assistance is needed. If a client has an emergency or an appointment, they are asked to stay in their cars during the visit unless it's necessary to come inside.
"The only exception we'd make right now is euthanasia or end-of-life visits. Everybody else we are asking to stay out to decrease interaction," House said.
If it is urgent and after hours, clients can drive up and push a call button outside the front hospital doors.
