OTTAWA COUNTY, MI -- Flooding has prompted Ottawa County leaders to declare a local State of Emergency.
In a statement Sunday evening, May 17, the Ottawa County Emergency Management team announced the declaration due to large rain totals over the past few days and a flood warning in effect.
Emergency Management officials say the county is currently experiencing inland flooding caused by heavy rainfall and that the Grand River is expected to reach a minor flood stage of 13.3 feet by Monday morning.
A flood warning in the area of Robinson Township is in effect until Sunday, May 24, when the Grand River is expected to recede back below minor flood stage.
The local State of Emergency declaration allows officials to coordinate additional resources for their response.

Residents are urged to take action to limit any flooding damage to their property. Anyone who has suffered flooding damage is asked to fill out a self reporting damage survey form online here.
Flooding is expected near the Grand River this weekend and into early next week, according to county officials.
Residents can ask for non-emergency assistance or report damage 8:00 am to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday by calling 211.
Over the weekend, those services can be had by contacting the non-emergency number at Ottawa County Central Dispatch, which is 1-800-249-0911.
Residents are asked to call 911 only in emergencies.
Flooding along the lakeshore is expected to be worse this year as historic high water levels on Lake Michigan have raised the water table.
In late April, some residents in the northern portion of Ottawa County were dealing with flooded basements after about 4.8 inches of rain fell in a 24-hour period on Grand Haven, Spring Lake, Ferrysburg and surrounding areas.

Some of those homes impacted had never experienced flooding nor needed a sump pump because flooding was never an issue before with a lower water table.
