URGENT: Ask Davenport Officials to Halt Mass Fish Suffocation | PETA - PETA

pentingnus.blogspot.com

PETA has fielded desperate calls from Davenport, Iowa, residents regarding the reported draining of Prairie Pointe Pond, located along Belle Avenue between E. 60th and E. 58th streets. We’ve been told that this is a city-led “beautification” project and that a large volume of water has been pumped out of the pond this week. Callers have expressed concerns as to whether humane provisions will be made for the numerous fish and other aquatic animals who call the pond home.

While waterfowl, snakes, and hard-shelled turtles may be able to relocate themselves, fish and soft-shelled turtles won’t be able to do so. PETA contacted Davenport officials asking that they halt the draining and relocate (or euthanize, if necessary) whatever animals would otherwise suffocate to death, but we haven’t received a response yet. More worrisome still, one eyewitness claims that the fish are currently being extracted in order to be buried alive elsewhere. Your voice is needed now!

Please politely urge the following officials to do whatever is necessary so that no animals will be forced to endure a cruel death—then forward this alert widely.

The Honorable Michael Matson, Mayor of Davenport
