WellNow Urgent Care said Tuesday it plans to add 300 jobs over the next three months at its centers across upstate New York. The number represents a 25 percent increase in its total workforce, WellNow said.
In the Capital Region, WellNow said it would add 75 jobs. The for-profit company has nearly four dozens urgent care facilities in New York, as well as a small presence in the Chicago metropolitan area.
Currently, it has a total of 1,100 employees at its Illinois and New York locations.
Last year, it announced a partnership with Albany-based St. Peter's Health Partners to grow its network locally. At the time, it anticipated 10 to 12 urgent care centers in a seven-county area.
"Through our work with WellNow Urgent Care, we will improve access to urgent care across the Capital Region and help ensure our patients are receiving the right care, in the right place at the right time," Dr. James Reed, CEO of St. Peter's Health Partners, said at the time.
Capital Region locations already open include Latham, Albany, Clifton Park, Niskayuna and Hudson. Another center is under construction in Saratoga Springs. It also plans centers locally in Troy, Rensselaer, Glens Falls, and Gloversville, according to Tuesday's announcement.
Further details on those locations weren't immediately available.
The mix of full- and part-time positions includes nurse practitioners, licensed practical nurses, physician assistants, patient care technicians and radiological technologists, as well as administrative jobs.
"With flu season and the anticipated next wave of COVID-19 happening at the same time the Albany community needs easy-to-get, high quality healthcare now more than ever," said Dr. John Radford, WellNow Urgent Care's president. "This means we need to dial up our hiring efforts now—so we can get ahead of the expected demand from this so-called ‘twindemic.’”
