Letter | Closing Scotts Valley urgent care shows lack of caring - Santa Cruz Sentinel

“First, do no harm,” says the Hippocratic Oath. But Palo Alto Medical Foundation bean counters don’t take it, so they’re closing the Scotts Valley Urgent Care facility. A new Westside facility is supposed to make up for this.

How dare they? We 18,000 people in San Lorenzo Valley, especially Boulder Creek, must now drive an hour to get urgent care? Assuming we can drive, have a car, and aren’t seniors or disabled. This will badly over-burden Paracruz, Metro, and post-fire emergency services here in the burn zone, and endanger our health.

To PAMF I say: We’re not a budget line item to cross out because you lost money – duh! – during Pandemic 2020. We’re people with reasonable expectations of adequate access to things like water, power and health care. We need the “caring” part of health care from you as much as the “health” part.

— Ann Thryft, Boulder Creek

The Sentinel welcomes your letters to the editor. Letters should be short, no more than 150 words. We do not accept anonymous letters. Letter-writers should include their full name as well as a street address and telephone number. We don’t publish those details in the newspaper, but need the information for verification purposes. Occasionally, we reject letters simply because we’ve had so many on the same subject. Submit your letters online at https://ift.tt/323VLsP.
