MADISON, Wis. – An American Airlines flight made an emergency landing Sunday in Madison.
A Dane County Regional Airport spokesperson said the plane landed because of smoke in the cabin.
All passengers and crew are safe and accounted for, the spokesperson said.
The flight landed without incident at 2:19 p.m. Sunday at the Dane County Regional Airport.
Including pilots and crew, 190 people were on board the Airbus 321, flight AA3.
The flight embarked from JFK airport in New York and was en route to LAX in Los Angeles.
The plane spent five minutes on the runway before being evacuated.
American Airlines is holding the plane in Madison until it can be inspected. A separate plane will take passengers to Los Angeles, the spokesperson confirmed.
News 3 Now has independently confirmed Tom Rapier was on Flight 3 heading to Los Angeles. Shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday, Rapier tweeted, saying the plane made an emergency landing in Madison.
American Airlines replied, saying: “Safety will always be our top concern. Our teams will take excellent care of you and have you on your way again as soon as we can.”
