PHILADELPHIA — Unionized carpenters in the northeast U.S. were congratulated by the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters (EASRCC) executive secretary-treasurer William Sproule for their role in completing the 11th emergency health care facility set up to treat COVID-19 patients in the region.

The workers received COVID-19 Preparedness Training for the task, noted a May 1 release. The EASRCC partnered with the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management, FEMA and the Army Corps of Engineers to develop facilities at:

  • Bergen New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus, N.J.
  • Penn Medicine Patient Pavilion in Philadelphia
  • Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, N.J.
  • Cooper University Hospital in Camden, N.J.
  • Salem Medical Center in Salem, N.J.
  • Atlantic City Convention Center in Atlantic City, N.J.
  • New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center in Edison, N.J.
  • Morristown Medical Center in Morristown, N.J.
  • Atlantic Rehabilitation Institute in Madison, N.J.
  • Overlook Medical Center in Summit, N.J.
  • Hackettstown Medical Center in Hackettstown, N.J.

“Here, 250 hospital rooms were built in a day-and-a-half, that’s a heck of an accomplishment,” stated Sproule during a tour of the Atlantic City Convention Center. “We have to make sure to commend those guys.”

In Philadelphia, carpenters participated as 60 patient rooms were constructed at the Penn Medicine Patient Pavilion in 10 calendar days.
