Altru’s urgent care in Grand Forks will close effective Friday, the hospital announced, to be replaced by expanded clinic services.
The health care provider said the change was made to best serve patients in convenient locations across the communities it serves.
"Our expanding express clinic services will allow patients to choose where they want to be cared for on a walk-in basis," Altru said in a news release.
Annie Bonzer, an Altru spokeswoman, said the move is made to improve convenience for patients.
"As we focus on convenience for our patients, Altru is making this change to move to a modern method of providing walk-in care," she told the Herald. "We had already established our Express Services, we are expanding them and now have four convenient locations in the Greater Grand Forks area. ... This will also help to decongest our emergency room so that those with emergent needs have better access to care. This change was made to benefit our community."
Altru lists its express clinic hours as:
- Express Clinic at Altru Family Medicine Residency at 725 Hamline St. in Grand Forks
Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. - Pediatric Express Clinic at Altru Family Medicine Center at 1380 S. Columbia Rd. in Grand Forks
Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. - Express Clinic at Altru Clinic East Grand Forks
Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. - Express Clinic at Altru Professional Center at 4440 S. Washington St. in Grand Forks
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Altru also has clinics in Crookston, Thief River Falls and Devils Lake.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the company said in a press release earlier this week that it was changing how patients wait for their appointments. Patients park in a designated parking spot, call a posted phone number and are checked in their car. They are then escorted directly to their exam room when it’s available at the express clinics.
Altru said these "changes are being implemented to streamline the patient experience during the COVID-19 pandemic."
