While the moratorium in Wisconsin on evictions ended with the end of the state's emergency COVID order, there still is help available for tenants through a state program.
The Department of Trade and Consumer Protection Administrator Lara Sutherlin says the state has implented Wisconsin's Rental Assistance Program, or WRAP. The program provides assistance to eligible renters who had significant loss of income due to the pandemic.
Sutherlin outlines the eligibility requirements...
"You must be an adult resident with household income at or below 80 percent of county median income in the month prior to the application. Eligible costs include both direct financial aid as well as security deposits and rental assistance up to $3,000 per individual..."
Sutherlin says you should call Wisconsin's 2-1-1 system, or the local Community Action Program, CAP, for more information.
In April, the state enacted an emergency rule concerning rental late fees and penalties. Landlords may not charge a fee or penalty for nonpayment or late payment of rent on a residential dwelling. This emergency rule will expire on August 8.
Additionally, the Wisconsin Public Service Commission announced internet customers unable to pay due to circumstances related to the pandemic may request their internet service remain on for the duration of the Keeping Americans Connected pledge, currently through June 30. Call your provider for more information.
