From broken bones to lacerations and all the bumps and bruises of life, Springfield Urgent Care is ready to serve the community.
The new facility, located at 2116 S. Milford Road in Highland, next to the Twist & Shake, opened May 5 and offers a variety of services in addition to urgent care.
Dr. Tressa Gardner and Physician’s Assistant James Harrill are co-owners of Springfield Urgent Care.
The center is co-owned by Dr. Tressa Gardner, a specialist in emergency medicine, and James Harrill, a certified physician’s assistant with a trauma and emergency medicine background.
“We have the facility and highly trained staff that’s going to give you the level of expertise that you would walk into at an emergency center,” said Harrill, who worked earlier in his career with Dr. Neil Belgiano, of North Valley Internal Medicine. “We find a lot of ER visits could be taken care of safely and in a much more cost-effective way in the urgent care setting.”
In addition to urgent care, Springfield offers occupational health services, such as pre-employment physicals; specialized firefighter physicals; Department of Transportation physicals for drivers of commercial motor vehicles; and urine drug analysis. Sports physicals are also available for $20.
They also offer curbside COVID nasal swabs to test for the virus, and COVID antibody testing, which is a blood draw done inside the facility.
“We handle all our potential COVID-19 patients outside and swabs are done in full PPE, so the rest of our facility is clean and clear and people can feel safe coming in to have their injury or illness taken care of,” said Harrill.
With COVID antibody testing “the hope is the immunity is going to give some protection from a future infection. In theory, an IGG antibody gives some protection… but the testing and research and data just doesn’t exist yet because the virus is so new,” said Harrill.
Springfield Urgent Care is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week. Patients can visit www.springfieldurgentcare.com to see current wait times and check in online.
“It’s not an appointment, because like an emergency room, urgent care is basically taking people as they come in, but it does get you a place in line,” said Harrill, who noted the average visit is completed within 45 minutes.
Gardner said the clinic’s goal is to be the bridge between emergency room care and patient’s primary care physicians.
“Our goal is to provide top-notch urgent care,” said Gardner. “We all have high co-pays and deductibles, so having urgent care in your neighborhood is vital.”
