CORAL SPRINGS, FL – With Covid-19 and flu season overlapping this year, medical experts are urging Coral Springs residents to get flu shots as soon as possible to keep at least one of those viruses at bay.
The flu shot will protect you as well as those around you from this year’s influenza illnesses, said Jennifer Rodriguez, manager of Baptist Health Urgent Care on Sample Road in Coral Springs.
In fact, during the time of the coronavirus, getting a flu shot is just as important as taking the Covid-19 precautions: social distancing, wearing a mask, and washing your hands.
“This shot serves as a barrier to protecting us from the flu,” Rodriguez said. “With Covid-19, it’s a good precaution to take and protect yourself.”
It’s also a way to reduce the burden of influenza and related complications on the overloaded healthcare system, experts say.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that people six months of age and older get a yearly flu vaccine, which reduces the chances of getting the flu by up to 60 percent. Data from the 2018-2019 flu season shows the vaccine prevented an estimated 4.4 million influenza illnesses.
Baptist Health Urgent Care, as well as Baptist Health Urgent Care Express on Coral Ridge Drive, are offering free shots. They don’t require checking with insurance plans.
Schedule a flu shot at Baptist Health Urgent Care centers here. Walk-ins are welcome at the two centers in Coral Springs.
Walmart, CVS, and other stores and pharmacies offer flu shots as well. There, the shots are generally free with most insurance plans.
