INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — An emergency food box distribution is set for Sebastian and Fellsmere May 7.
Treasure Coast Community Health, along with the Treasure Coast Food Bank, is coordinating the food distribution from 10 a.m. to noon at Treasure Coast Community Health in Sebastian, 13505 U.S. 1 in the Publix Plaza at the corner of Roseland Road; and from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Treasure Coast Community Health clinic, 12196 County Road 512 in Fellsmere.
“The Treasure Coast Food Bank has partnered with us in the past,” said Colette Heid, community relations and outreach director for Treasure Coast Community Health. “About a month ago, they reached out to see if we could hand out some food donations to our patients through our health navigator program.”

That distribution went over so well that two to three pallets of emergency food boxes were distributed in about four days, Heid said. These boxes contain staple items such as peanut butter, pasta, canned fruit and vegetables and other non-perishable foods and will feed a family of four for one week.
Treasure Coast Community Health hopes Thursday’s food distribution will reach even more families who have been hit hard by job losses due to the pandemic.
Treasure Coast Community Health will distribute three to four pallets of emergency food boxes Thursday.

“When we asked the food bank if they had any more donations we could distribute, they immediately said yes,” said Heid. “A lot of people just don’t know how they will get through and by opening this up to the community, we hope to provide more families with help.”
The Treasure Coast Food Bank provides over 100,000 meals each week through its network of agencies and programs and is in need of support from the community.
