Akron’s mayor, Brittani Kusel, has signed and submitted a Declaration of Local Disaster Emergency following the June 9 storm that struck town.
“Pursuant to the provisions of Section 24-33.5-709, Colorado Revised Statutes, and any other applicable legal authority I, Brittani R. Kusel, the Mayor and the principal executive officer for the City/Town of Akron, on behalf of the City/Town of Akron, do hereby declare a local disaster within the City/Town of Akron due to the occurrence or imminent threat of widespread or severe damage, injury, or loss of life or property, resulting from the following condition or situation: The Town of Akron sustained widespread damages associated with a Severe Thunderstorm and excessive Wind Damages to the Town of Akron and the surrounding area on this date, June 9th, 2020.
At the current time, there is continuing need for coordination of recovery operations, assessment of damages, and commencement of mitigation and repair activities. The purpose of this declaration of a local disaster emergency is to activate the response and recover aspects of an and all applicable local and inter-jurisdictional disaster emergency plans and to authorize the furnishing of aid and assistance under such plans. This declaration shall be valid for a period not to exceed seven (7) days, unless continued or renewed by the City/Town Council of the City/Town of Akron, Colorado.”
