Whitmer: Michigan's coronavirus state of emergency will continue through July - Detroit Free Press

LANSING — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said Wednesday she will extend Michigan's state of emergency, which is set to expire Friday, and Michigan will remain in a state of emergency through July and likely longer.

The state of emergency, which gives Whitmer the powers to issue emergency orders to close businesses, suspend evictions and take other steps, should not be confused with the stay-at-home order, which Whitmer lifted on June 1.

"We will remain in some form of state of emergency," Whitmer said at a news conference.

"Every state in that nation has some form of state of emergency. That is necessary."
