Power went out in parts of Grand Forks, the state is urging against travel in the region and the city of East Grand Forks has declared a snow emergency as a winter storm continued Sunday night.
According to a release sent to the media Sunday, the emergency in East Grand Forks goes into effect at midnight Monday, Dec. 6, and shall remain in effect until all streets have been cleared to their full width.
During the emergency, there will be no parking on East Grand Forks city streets. Vehicles parked on the street during a snow emergency are subject to ticketing and towing.
Also Sunday, there were reports of power outages in Greater Grand Forks, starting around 5 p.m.
According to WDAY, as of 6 p.m. Sunday, East Grand Forks had received 8.5 inches of snow during the snowstorm that hit Saturday evening and continued through Sunday. Meanwhile, Grand Forks has received about 7 inches.
Wind speeds as of 6 p.m. were around 30 mph or higher.
Meanwhile, the North Dakota Department of Transportation and North Dakota Highway Patrol on Sunday evening issued a No Travel Advisory for portions of northeastern North Dakota due to near zero visibility and ice-covered roadways.
A No Travel Advisory means that motorists should not travel due to hazardous conditions which may make it unsafe to travel.
Cities included in this advisory are Grand Forks, Grafton, Pembina and surrounding areas.
