Every winter the need for blood donations increases. This year, after tens of thousands of blood drives were canceled due to the pandemic, the need for blood has become urgent.
Giving blood is nothing new to Tim Glover. The North Country native donates almost every couple of months and he has been doing it since college.

"It's pretty regular. I've had some surgeries and needed some blood so it works out good," Glover said.
However, this year more than any other, Tim is making sure he's giving as much as possible.
Typically the Red Cross hosts blood drives throughout the year, some in preparation for winter and sometimes there is a certain blood type needed more than others.
However, this year, the pandemic led to the cancelation of tens of thousands of drives across the country drives that would have collected more than a million donations. So now, as winter approaches, the need is immense and all blood types are needed.
"You never know what's going to happen with emergencies and things going on, when the blood is needed," Glover said.
While the donation process isn't for everyone, Tim is hoping that by sharing his experience on this day, any fears or concerns by others watching, but considering donating, will vanish.
"I've been here 35 minutes, I'm done. I've had no pain at all. The needle stick is really pretty simple," Glover said.
These days, post-donation snacks are still good, but it's not the only benefit donors will receive.
The Red Cross is also testing blood donations for COVID-19 antibodies, and letting donor know if they may have been exposed to the virus.
It's yet another reason Glover highly recommends donating if you can.
