PACIFICA – Emergency repair work on the pier and seawall in Pacifica was set to begin Wednesday, city officials said.
The work will focus on a void underneath the sidewalk near the pier, the city said in a news release. Revealed by recent king tides and large swells, the void was created by an opening at the bottom of the seawall where the seawall meets the pier abutment.
The city said a local contractor, MRC, will first position large rocks to prevent seawater from entering the void. That step is expected to take roughly two days to complete.
“Once the breach area is safe to enter, the city will work with its team to determine an effective repair for the breach,” the city said, adding that the void has been temporarily stabilized.
During the work, Beach Boulevard will be closed to vehicle traffic and be limited to residents only, the city said. Pedestrian traffic will also be limited to residents only and may be rerouted. Residents should expect noise, equipment and trucks in the area.
The city said the pier may need to be closed intermittently during the work for safety reasons.
Anyone with questions or concerns about the work can contact the Pacifica Department of Public Works Field Services Division at 650-738-3760 or dpwassistance@ci.pacifica.ca.us.
