Gov. Kay Ivey has issued a state of emergency Tuesday for all of Alabama’s 67 counties as much of the state is expected to be impacted by severe weather tomorrow.

The state of emergency is set to go into effect at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Ivey urged Alabamians to take precautions in advance of the severe weather.

“The threat for potentially dangerous weather is rising for much of Alabama tomorrow. Out of an abundance of caution, I have issued a state of emergency for all 67 counties to ensure we are ready to act in any way needed from the state level,” the governor said in a statement. “Projections are showing that this will likely be a widespread event, with some of the most severe weather anticipated late Wednesday night into early Thursday morning. Please make preparations now in the event your area is impacted in some way. I will continue keeping a close eye on the system and encourage every Alabamian to do the same.”

Much of Alabama is in the moderate risk category for severe weather as of Tuesday afternoon, though that could change before Wednesday’s storms arrive.

The Storm Prediction Center, updating its severe weather outlook on Tuesday afternoon, noted that an upgrade to a high risk, or Level 5 out of 5, could be possible for parts of the state if forecast trends continue for Wednesday.
