A pediatric urgent care clinic designed to provide after-hours treatment for sick or injured children as an alternative to hospital emergency rooms has opened in Hixson.
Urgent Care for Children (UC4C), a physician-founded urgent care provider headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, opened its first facility this week in Tennessee in a new 3,250-square-foot leased facility at Highway 153 and Hamill Road.
The Hixson clinic is the ninth such Urgent Care for Children to open since the company began in 2017 and could be the first of a couple in the Chattanooga market. A similar facility is due to open in early April in Collierville, Tennessee.
"As an award-winning pediatric urgent care founded in Alabama, we are proud to offer after-hours services to treat conditions for ages zero to 21 years," said Dr. Allury Arora, the co-founder and chief medical officer for Urgent Care for Children.
The facility is open weekdays from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on weekends and holidays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The clinic includes an onsite laboratory, pharmacy and x-ray at each facility to help meet the needs of sick or injured children after hours. The six full-time employees at the Hixson center include pediatrician Dr. Erin Pierce.
The center is designed to complement, not compete, with local pediatricians and officials said they are eager to work as an after-hours extension of pediatric care for minor illnesses and injuries.
"Our goal is to complement your primary care pediatrician and offer an affordable, convenient alternative to the emergency room," said Bannon Thorpe, CEO for UC4C. "It can mean a lot to have a pediatric specialist when you have a child not feeling well, and we are excited to bring convenient access to quality pediatric medical care to Hixson."
The chain is also one of the first sensory-inclusive urgent care facilities to accommodate children with special needs.
Anna Peacock, marketing director for UC4C, said the growing pediatric medical business is planning to add several more urgent care centers this year.
"Our goal is to be a leader in pediatric urgent care in the Southeast," she said, "We are looking at expanding beyond Hixson in the Chattanooga area."
The pediatric clinic is the latest addition to the 21,240-square-foot retail and commercial complex that Wolford Development built over the past three years at Highway 153 and Gadd Road. The center includes FirstWatch, Mike's Tavern and California Tortilla restaurants and will soon add an outlet of the national cell phone repair chain uBreakiFix. Developer Clint Wolford said only 1,900 square feet is still vacant in the center.
