Members from East Jefferson’s police, fire, and EMS ranks gathered on Saturday to hold a moment of silence for the 20-year anniversary of the Sept. 11 attack on the World Trade Center.

At exactly 8:46 a.m., the personnel held a moment of silence to honor service members who gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect and rescue victims of the terrorist attacks.

“It feels more significant this year for a variety of reasons,” said East Jefferson Fire Rescue Chief Bret Black.

The group of service personnel stood shoulder to shoulder for a moment in pure silence to remember the fallen.

“It’s an honor to have a short remembrance for the sacrifices they made,” Port Townsend’s Police Chief Thomas Olson said. “Seeing the community come out ... it has an added level of importance.”

Around 20 or so citizens came out to pay their respects, and join the personnel on Saturday morning.

“It feels good to stand shoulder to shoulder with them,” said East Jefferson Fire Rescue EMT Patrick Williams.
