MT. VERNON (WSIL) -- An issue with a plane's landing gear forced the pilot to make an emergency landing in Mt. Vernon.

The Mt. Vernon Fire Department responded to an inbound Piper PA-44 that called for an emergency landing at around 7:45p.m Saturday. Three personnel, including a pilot, were on board.

The plane diverted from Centralia Airport to Mt. Vernon Outland Airport.

The pilot indicated that the plane's nose landing gear had not fully deployed. First responders on the ground confirmed an issue with the front landing gear during a low-level flyover.

The pilot was successfully able to complete an emergency landing and slid to a stop on the runway with no injuries. Air rescue personnel assisted passengers and secured the plane. It's unclear why the landing gear didn't deploy.

MVFD responded along with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Jefferson Fire Protection District, Litton Ambulance and the Mt. Vernon Police Department. Waltonville and Kell Fire Protection Districts also assisted.
