Funds Needed For 'Urgent' Move Of Agua Dulce Exotic Animal Rescue - KHTS Radio

pentingnus.blogspot.com

An Agua Dulce-based exotic animal rescue organization is reaching out to the community for help as they work to acquire property needed for an “urgent” move due to what they refer to as a “threat to our very survival as a nonprofit.”

Like many organizations across the country, “Animal Tracks,” an exotic animal rescue nonprofit based out of Agua Dulce, faces financial hardships due to lost revenue as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, unlike many other organizations, the nonprofit also faces the “looming costs of an unplanned relocation.

We recently learned that our zoning changed and we are no longer able to operate the way we did pre-COVID,” reads a statement from their website. “We have to relocate and as you can imagine, moving a zoo will be costly. Our staff is working for free and our time is stretched with the care needed for each and every animal.”

In addition to the costs of acquiring property and securing the necessary permits, the nonprofit faces the unique challenge of paying for new areas to be built for the animals in their care.

Officials with the nonprofit have set up a GoFundMe to help offset some of the costs associated with the move.

No property will come with the needed fencing and foundations, so that must be built to protect our charges, which includes walls, underground bricks and fencing, shade (be it trees or more building-like structures), and often unforeseen adjustments,” the GoFundMe reads. “We will have to run electricity that will allow us to keep our animals cool in the summer and warm in the winter. This GoFundMe will not cover all our costs, but it will allow us to acquire property and begin the arduous task of moving.”

Animal Tracks finds exotic animals that were former pets, imprinted, injured or mistreated in some way, and takes them in to “give them a forever home.”

While their physical location is closed off to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic, officials with Animal Tracks have been offering live-streaming options to help keep the animals “close to you.”

“We currently only bring in money from our ‘Zoom-bombs’ where our critters happily crash your virtual meetings, birthday parties, corporate events, general hang-outs,” the GoFundMe page reads. “We want to continue educating and acting as the voices for these animals but we absolutely need your help to keep running right now.”

The GoFundMe page had raised over $33,000 of it’s $200,000 goal as of Thursday afternoon.

We love the animals we care for and we love sharing them with you,” the GoFundMe reads. “We hope everyone who has visited us has had a once in a lifetime experience (as many times as you’ve been here) and memories that they can brag about forever. We hope to create more voices for conservation and for the animals and species we home. We believe that change starts at the personal level.”
